I’m going to host a series of Substack Lives over the coming weeks, all at noon Eastern on Thursdays, starting next week. These will be 40-minute, fast-aced conversations on a range of topics. The technology is pretty slick - we can take questions from viewers as the conversation progresses.
The idea is that you can join a stimulating conversation while you’re having lunch on the East Coast or your morning cup of coffee on the West.
On May 22nd, I’ll be in conversation with Arnab Dutta, the director of policy implementation at Employ America, to discuss the growing movement to create a new national investment bank in the United States. The idea has been percolating since 2021 (see this Atlantic piece from the time), with support on the left and right. Sign up to get a reminder!
On May 29th, Andrew Marantz from The New Yorker and I will discuss his recent piece “What It’s Like to Live Under Autocracy,” which asks us to consider how we know when authoritarianism has taken hold. Sign up to get a reminder!
On June 5th, I’ll be in conversation with Peter Conti-Brown, the Class of 1965 Associate Professor of Financial Regulation at the Wharton School—and my dissertation advisor! We’ll be discussing how to think about Fed “independence” in the wake of Trump’s threats to fire Jay Powell and what to make of recent claims that the Fed has become too politicized. Sign up to get a reminder!
Finally, On June 12th, I’ll be joined by the former Chair of the Federal Trade Commission, Lina Khan. We’ll try to make sense of how Trump and Republicans are approaching on antitrust and antimonopoly, the ongoing cases against Meta, Amazon, Google, what’s next for the antimonopoly movement — and for Khan personally. Sign up to get a reminder!
If you have particular questions that you’d like for me to ask ahead of any of these interviews, please send me a direct message here on Substack. I’ll try my best to get them in.
Thanks Chris
I would love to join these livestreams. Being in East Coast Australia, the time is not that convenient for me, but I will do my best to join.
I sent you a substack email a while back to reach out to you and let you know of the profound work we are doing to ignite universal empowerment. Part of that agenda, and my personal mission is to transform the global business and investment communities to create wealth in ways that enhance the well-being of the individual, wider community, and environment based on the founding principles of higher consciousness. This is not throwing out everything good about free markets, deliberating re crafting the economic, trade and finance systems that works for all, not just the few. I would love to get you and others of influence involved in this profound mission.
Kind regards,
Marvin Schneider
